His Eminence Metropolitan Joachim of Helenoupolis

Was born in Volos in 1966, where he completed his secondary education. He studied Theology at the University of Athens. He was ordained as a deacon in 1986 and a Priest in 1993, serving at various Churches in Greece.
In 1996 he moved to Africa, initially to minister in Ethiopia. In 1997 he was transferred to Alexandria, where he was appointed as Secretary-General of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and Head of the Patriarchal Holy Church of St. Nikolaos of Ivraimia, which he fully reconstructed.
In 2003 he was elected Bishop of Zambia, while in 2009 he received the title of Metropolitan, and the neighbouring country of Malawi was added to his pastoral duties. During his Episcopal office in Africa, he constructed Holy Churches, schools, and clinics, and worked in the preaching of the Gospel, drawing a large number of people in Orthodoxy.
In 2015, having submitted his resignation from his active ministry, he arrived in Jerusalem, where he was appointed as teacher of the Patriarchal School of the Holy Sion and Head of the rentals department of the Financial Committee of the Patriarchate. In 2016 he was settled as Metropolitan of Helenoupolis.
In 2020 he was appointed as the President of the Ecclesiastical Court of Appeals, in 2021, as the Chairman of the School Board of the Patriarchal School of Saint Dimitrios and President of the Committee for the West Bank Schools. In 2022 he was appointed as Hegoumen in Gethsemane.
