His Eminence Dorotheos, Archbishop of Avela

Was born in Pitiounta on the island of Chios in 1948. He came to Jerusalem in 1963. Graduating from the Patriarchal School, he was tonsured Monk and in 1969 was ordained as Deacon.
In 1973 he was ordained Priest. He received the title of Archimandrite in 1975. He is a graduate of the Theological School of the University of Athens.
He served as Hegoumen at the Holy Monasteries of St John the Baptist in Jerusalem and of the Prophet Elijah in Haifa, as well as President of the Estate Committee.
In March 1991 he was appointed as Member of the Holy and Sacred Synod and in October of the same year as Patriarchal Commissioner in Acre and President of the local Judicial Court.
In October 1998 he was elected and ordained Bishop of Avela. In 2000 he was advanced to Archbishop of Avela and was nominated Patriarchal Commissioner in Bethlehem.

In 2001 he was named Patriarchal Commissioner to Madaba. In 2005 he was re-appointed as President of the Estate Committee.

In 2008 he was appointed as Archivist.

In 2016 he was appointed as Hegoumen at the Theotokos’ Tomb in Gethsemane.
