His Eminence Demetrios, Archbishop of Lydda

(civil name, Nikolaos Basileiades)

Was born in Thessaloniki in 1958. He studied the Sacred Sciences at the Theological School of the University of Thessaloniki.
He was tonsured a Monk in 1981 at the cell of Small St Anna on Mount Athos. He arrived in Jerusalem in 1987. He was ordained a Deacon in 1987, and as Priest in 1988. In 1990 he received the title of Archimandrite.
He served as the Boarding School Manager and Secretary at the Patriarchal Offices, Hegoumen at the Holy Monastery of the Archangels in the Old City of Jerusalem, which he renovated, and as ministering Priest at the Holy Monastery of Megali Panagia.
In 1991 he was appointed Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod.
On 19th February 2013 he was elected Archbishop of Lydda. His ordination was held on 24th February 2013 in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
