His Eminence Damascene, Archbishop of Yaffo

Was born in Vlasti of Kozani in 1952. He came to Jerusalem in 1967.
He was tonsured Monk in 1968. In 1970 he was ordained as Deacon serving in Jerusalem, Nazareth and Amman. In 1977 he was ordained Priest and received the title of Archimandrite in 1980.
Also in 1980, he received a degree in English Literature from the Catholic University of Bethlehem. In 1984 he received a degree in Theology from the University of Thessaloniki. In 1985 he received a postgraduate degree cum laude (with distinction) in Byzantine History from the University of Thessaloniki. From the same University he received a Doctorate in Theology in 1986. He is also a graduate of the Aristotle University School of Law.
He served as Candle Keeper at the Most Holy Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Sacristan in Bethlehem, Hegoumen in various Monasteries, President of the Department of Rents and Teacher at the Patriarchal School. In 1994 he renovated at his own expenses the Holy Church of the Archangels in Yaffo and the Holy Monastery there.
In 1996 he was appointed as Member of the Holy and Sacred Synod. In October 1998 he was elected and on 13/10/1998 ordained Bishop of Yaffo. In 2000 he was advanced to Archbishop of Yaffo and appointed as President of the Ecclesiastic Court of Yaffo. In 2001 he renovated and opened the School of Yaffo.
In 2001 he was appointed as Exarch of the Most Holy Sepulchre in Greece and in 2002 as Exarch in America. In 2008 he graduated with a Doctorate Degree in Law from the Aristotle University, his PhD dissertation titled: “The structural organization of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem”.
