THE CATHODE OF THE ICON OF THE THEOTOKOS TO GETHSEMANE

On Saturday morning, August 12/25, 2018, there was the procession of the cathode of the icon of the Theotokos to Gethsemane.

As known, this icon of the Dormition of the Theotokos is kept throughout the year at the Metochion of Gethsemane, opposite the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Aftet the All-night Vigil, the procession of the cathode of the icon began at 5.00 in the morning. The icon was carried by the Hegoumen of Gethsemane Most Reverend Archbishop Dorotheos, as the procession headed down Via Dolorosa, with the participation of Archbishops, Priests, monks, nuns and a large crowd of pilgrims, under the hymns by the choir leader Mr. Constantinos Spyropoulos, with the help of monks . The procession stopped for special prayers before the Holy Monasteries of Praetorion, St. Anna and St. Stephen while the choir was singing the hymns of the Dormition. 

When the Procession reached Gethsemane and after a special prayer at the Tomb of the Theotokos, the icon was placed behind the Tomb for veneration and the Divine Liturgy, led by Archiandrite Paissios followed the Great Canon of the Theotokos.

Aftet the Divine Liturgy the Hegoumen Most Reverend Archbishop Dorotheos offered a reception to the Priests and the pilgrims at the Hegoumeneion above the Church.
