THE FEAST OF THE VENERATION OF THE PRECIOUS CHAIN OF THE HOLY AND ALL-FAMED APOSTLE PETER

On Wednesday, January 16/29, 2020, the Patriarchate celebrated the feast of the veneration of the precious chain of Apostle Peter, at the chapel of his imprisonment, which is located inside the Holy Monastery of St. Nicodemus, between the Monastery of Praetorion and the Monastery of St. Anna.

On this feast the Church commemorates the imprisonment of Apostle Peter by King Herod and his miraculous release through an Angel, according to the narrative in the Book of Acts (ch. 12).

In honour of this event, Vespers in the afternoon and the Divine Liturgy on the Feast Day were celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Theophanes of Gerassa, with co-celebrants Hagiotaphite Hieromonks, the Archimandrites; Ignatios, Meletios, Kallistos and Hierodeacon Sophronios. The chanting was delivered by Mr. Vasilios Gotsopoulos with the help of the Athonite Monk Joseph and the service was attended by a congregation of Monks, Nuns and pilgrims.

After the Divine Liturgy the Hegoumen of the Monastery Archimandrite Makarios offered a reception to the Episcopal entourage and the congregation at the Hegoumeneion.
