THE FEAST OF THE SYNAXIS OF SAINT JOHN THE FORERUNNER AT THE PATRIARCHATE

One day after the Feast of Theophany, on Monday January 7/20, 2020, the Feast of the Synaxis of Saint John the Baptist was celebrated, which is the gathering of the faithful to honour Saint John as the principal person for the Baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For this Feast the Divine Liturgy was celebrated on the morning of the Feast, at the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Baptist and Forerunner at the river Jordan, which has been renovated and preserved from the 1967 war damages by the funding of the memorable Hegoumen of Sarantarion Mount Gerasimos and of reverend donors, under the supervision of Hegoumen Archimandrite Bartholomew.

The Divine Liturgy was officiated by the founder of the Baptism Shrine on the opposite west side of the river Jordan, His Eminence Metropolitan Benedict of Philadelphia, with the co-celebration of the Hagiotaphite Archimandrites; Philoumenos, and Meletios and Dean Priest Stephen, with the chanting of Mr. Vasilios Gotsopoulos and the participation of many faithful from Jerusalem and pilgrims.

The renovator and Keeper of the Monastery, Hegoumen Archimandrite Bartholomew offered a reception to the Fathers and the congregation after the services.
