THE SERVICE OF THE ROYAL HOURS OF EPIPHANY AT THE PATRIARCHATE

On Friday, January 4/17, 2020, after Matins at the Monastic Church of Saints Constantine and Helen, the Royal Hours of Epiphany were read, the included troparia of each of them were chanted and the Gospel narratives referring to our Lord Jesus Christ’s baptism the river Jordan were read.

The Service was officiated by His Beatitude our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos, who read the Gospel narrative of the first Hour, while the Gospel narratives of the other three Hours were read by the Archbishops in their rank order.

This Service was held according to the Typikon of the Church, which dictates that if the Feast of Epiphany is on a Sunday, the Hours are read on the former Friday, without the Divine Liturgy or the Sanctification of the water, as the latter are celebrated on Saturday and on Sunday, the day of the main Feast.
