SCHOOL EVENT FOR THE ANNIVERSARY OF 28 OCTOBER 1940

On Sunday afternoon, October 15/28 2018, there was a school event at the Patriarchal School of Zion on the national anniversary of 28 October 1940.

On behalf of the Patriarchate, the school event was attended by H.H.B. our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos, escorted by Geronda Secretary-General Most Reverend Archbishop Aristarchos of Constantina and other Archbishops and Priests of the Patriarchate. Present were also Hagiotaphite Fathers and members of the Greek Community.

On behalf of the General Consulate of Greece, the event was honoured by His Excellency the Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem Mr. Christos Sophianopoulos and members of the Consulate.

The school event included an introduction by the Managing Director of the School Reverend Archimandrite Mattheos, the Festal Speech of the Day by the literature teacher Mrs. Catherine Kolonelou, the reciting of poems and texts from historic authors of 1940, the delivery of patriotic songs under the lead of the Choir Leader of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and Boarding School Manager Mr. Constantinos Spyropoulos, and a theatrical play on the reshuffle of soldiers to the Albanian Front.

Through this School event there was a commemoration and presentation of the Italian and German attack against our country during World War II, the undermining of its territorial integrity and the sacrifices of blood of the Greeks and the liberation of the country through them.

At the end of the event, His Beatitude our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos praised the contributors of the event, the educational staff, the students and His Excellency the Consul General of Greece for his support to the School.
