THE FEAST OF THE SYNAXIS OF THE ANCESTORS OF GOD SAINTS JOACHIM AND ANNA

On Saturday, September 9/22, 2018, the Patriarchate celebrated the commemoration of the Synaxis of the Ancestors of God Saints Joachim and Anna, which refers to the gathering of the faithful after the Feast of the Nativity of Theotokos, in order to honour the commemoration of the parents of the One from whom “the Son of Righteousness, Christ our God didst rise”.

In the morning of the Feast, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Holy Shrine of St. Anna, the place that was the house of the Holy Ancestors of God and where Theotokos was born. The Service was officiated by the Most Reverend Metropolitan Isychios of Kapitolias, with co-celebrants the Master of Ceremonies Archimandrite Bartholomew, other Priests and Hierodeacon Demetrios, while the chanting was delivered by the Choir Leader of the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen Archimandrite Eusevios, with the participation of many Orthodox faithful from Greece, Russia and Romania.

After the Divine Liturgy, the Hegoumen Archimandrite Meletios offered a reception to the Episcopal entourage and the faithful at the hegoumeneion.
