THE FEAST OF SAINT PANTELEIMON AT THE PATRIARCHATE

On Thursday July 27/August 9, 2018, the Patriarchate celebrated the commemoration of the Holy and Great Martyr and Healer Panetleimon at his Holy Monastery which is located on the west side of the Patriarchate and near Jaffa Gate, within the Old City Wall.

The Church commemorates St. Panteleimon, whose first name was Panteleon, as a doctor by profession, who nevertheless healed the people through God’s Grace rather than through human medicine. He believed in Christ and suffered a martyr’s death through many tortures for his faith during the reign of Maximian, in 305 A.D.

St. Panteleimon was honoured in the aforementioned Holy Monastery which is dedicated to him, with Vespers in the Evening, and the Divine Liturgy in the morning of the Feast. The Services were led by the Most Reverend Archbishop Demetrios of Lydda and the hymns were delivered by the Choir leader of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and his helpers. Many faithful attended the Services honouring the Saint and asking his healing intervention.

His Beatitude and Hagiotaphite Fathers visited the Monastery during the Divine Liturgy to venerate the relics of the Saint.

After the Divine Liturgy the renovator of the Monastery Reverend Nun Haritini, offered a reception to the Patriarchal Entourage and the people present.
