The Holy Monastery is dedicated to Prophet Elisseus, who was Prophet Elias’ disciple and it is located at the town centre, where there is also the sycamore tree Zaccheaus the publican climbed in order to see the Lord. Prophet Elisseus worked miracles in the town of Jericho such as the turning of the bitter water into drinking water in the spring that lies at the foot of the Sarantarion Mount.

At this Holy Church, Vespers was held in the evening and the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the morning of the feast, led by the Most Reverend Metropolitan Joachim of Helenoupolis, with co-celebrant Hagiotaphite Hieromonks, Archimandrites Ignatios and Chrysostom and Deacons. The Services were attended by members of the Arab-speaking Congregation of Jericho and pilgrims.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy there was a special prayer for the grapes, followed by a reception and a festal meal at the hegoumeneion. His Eminence praised the Hegoumen Archimandrite Philoumenos from Patra for the renovating work at the dome and other parts of the building of the Holy Monastery of Prophet Elisseus.
