THE FEAST OF PENTECOST AT THE PATRIARCHATE

On Pentecost Sunday, May 14/27, 2018, the Patriarchate celebrated the coming down of the Holy Spirit to the Holy disciples and apostles of Christ on the fiftieth day after His resurrection and ten days after His ascension.

Christ’s disciples were gathered in the Upper room and were filled with light and power when fiery tongues came down on their heads in a mighty breath and they started speaking in tongues to the crowds that were around them, informing them about the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ, resulting in the christening of around three thousand souls and the foundation of the first Church.

This event was celebrated by the Divine Liturgy at the All-holy and Life-giving Tomb of the Lord, led by H.H.B. our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos with co-celebrant Archbishops of the Throne, the Most Reverend Metropolitan Isychios of Kapitolias, and the Most Reverend Archbishops; Aristarchos of Constantina, Theodosios of Sebastia, Demetrios of Lydda, the Most Reverend Metropolitan Joachim of Helenoupolis, and the Most Reverend Archbishop Aristovoulos of Madaba. The Choir was led by Mr. Constantinos Spyropoulos and the service was attended by the Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem Mr. Christos Sophianopoulos and a large congregation.

After the Holy Communion the faithful remained and attended the Service of Vespers that started immediately after Dismissal and knelt at the kneeling prayers which were read by His Beatitude and His concelebrant Archbishops.

Likewise, the Vespers of the Holy Spirit Monday of the Hagiotaphite Brotherhood of the Monastery of Saints Constantine and Helen was held at the Holy Altar of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in low voice.

Vespers of the Holy Spirit at the Holy Zion 

On Sunday evening at 18.00, the Vespers of the Holy Spirit with the kneeling prayers was held at the cemetery chapel of Holy Zion, led by the Most Reverend Metropolitan Joachim of Helenoupolis with concelebrant Hagiotaphite Fathers, the Dean Priest of St. James Cathedral, Reverend Fr. Charalambos Bandour, while the service was attended by local faithful and pilgrims.
