THE FEAST OF ST. GEORGE AT THE PATRIARCHATE

The feast of St. George the Great Martyr and Trophy Bearer was celebrated one day before the actual feast, on Saturday April 22/May 5, 2018.

 

  1. At the Greek-Orthodox Arab-speaking Community of Acre-Ptrolemais in North Israel

The Feast was led by the Hegoumen of Acre Archimandrite Philotheos with co-celebrants Priests from the neighbouring towns, which belong to the Metropolis of Acre, at the presence of many Orthodox faithful from Acre and the surrounding areas, who showed their reverence to this Great Martyr of the Christian Church.

 

  1. In Lydda

In the town of Lydda near Tel-Aviv, known in antiquity with the name Diospolis from the Acts of the Apostles and the action of Apostle Peter, and in the Christian period with the name Georgiopolis after the tomb of St. George, the feast of the Great Martyr George the Trophy Bearer was celebrated with the Divine Liturgy. The Service was officiated by the Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod Most Reverend Archbishop Demetrios of Lydda with co-celebrant Hagiotaphite Hieromonks and Deacons. The Liturgy was attended by Greek, Russian and Romanian pilgrims and the Greek Orthodox Arab-speaking citizens of Lydda.

After the Divine Liturgy the Hegoumen Archimandrite Nicodemus offered a meal.

 

  1. At St. George of the Jerusalem Hospital

The Feast of the Great Martyr George was also celebrated at the Holy Church of his Monastery within the Old City of Jerusalem, named “of the Hospital” because the memorable Patriarch of Jerusalem Chrysanthos had founded a hospital in it.

The Divine Liturgy of this feast was led by the School Director of the Patriarchal School of Zion Archimandrite Mattheos with a great participation of many citizens of the Old City of Jerusalem and pilgrims who venerate Christ’s Martyr. After the Divine Liturgy the good keeper of the Monastery Reverend Nun Pansemni offered a reception to all present.

 

  1. At St. George- Jewish Quarter

In this Monastery, which is called “of the Jewish Quarter” as it is located in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, the officiating Priest of Vespers in the evening and of the Divine Liturgy on Sunday morning April 23/May 6, 2018, was Archimandrite Demetrios, with the participation of citizens of the Old City of Jerusalem and pilgrims.

After the Divine Liturgy the renovator of the Monastery Reverend Nun Anna offered a reception.
