THE D. LITURGY AT THE CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION FOR THE FEASTS OF THE LORD’S CIRCUMCISION AND THE OF ST. BASIL

The Divine Liturgy for the feast of the Lord’s Circumcision and of St. Basil the Great, Archbishop of Caesarea of Cappadocia was celebrated at the Catholicon of the All-holy Church of the Resurrection and the Holy Sepulchre on the night of Saturday December 31, 2017/ January 13, 2018.

The Feast was officiated by H.H.B. our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos, with co-celebrants their Eminences; Metropolitan Isychios of Kapitolias, the Archbishops Aristarchos of Constantina and Demetrios of Lydda, Metropolitan Joachim of Helenoupolis and Hagiotaphite Hieromonks with the first in rank Elder Kamarasis Archimandrite Nectarios, and visiting Priests from  other Orthodox Churches. The right choir was led by Archimandrite Aristovoulos and the left by Mr. George Alvanos. The Service was attended by a congregation of pilgrims from various Orthodox countries, such as Greece, Cyprus, Russia, Romania and Ukraine. Present were also the Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem Mr. Christos Sophianopoulos and his associates.

After the Divine Liturgy there was a litany three times around the Holy Sepulchre and the Shrines with the holy relic of St. Basil’s right hand. The cutting of the New Year Cake followed at the office of Geronda Sacristan by His Beatitude.

In the morning, after the Divine Liturgy at St. Constantine’s Church, His Beatitude cut the New Year Cake for the Hagiotaphite Fathers, and at noon there was a monastic meal where His Beatitude cut another New Year Cake.
