THE FEAST OF THE GREAT MARTYR ST. PANTELEIMON AT THE PATRIARCHATE
On Wednesday 27th July /9th August 2017, the Patriarchate celebrated the memory of the Holy glorious Great Martyr and healer Panteleimon at the Holy Monastery dedicated to him and St. Cyril, which is located between St. Demetrios School and the wall of Jaffa Gate, near Gloria hotel, where the Patriarchate hospital used to be.
The Church honours St. Panteleimon as a doctor by profession, who came from Nicomedea and healed his patients for free, he confessed Christ and martyred in 305 A.D. during the reign of Maximian through many tortures, which he endured patiently and remained unharmed, until he was beheaded by an executioner, offering his head willingly in order to martyr for Christ.
In the aforementioned Holy Monastery there was Vespers in the evening and the Divine Liturgy in the morning of the feast, led by the Most Reverend Archbishop Demetrios of Lydda and Secretary of the Holy Synod, with co-celebrants Hagiotaphite Hieromonks and Hierodeacons, at the singing of the choir leader of the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Helen Archimandrite Eusevios, and the left choir singer of the Church of the Resurrection Mr. George Alvanos, with the presence of a big congregation of monks, nuns and Greek and Arab-speaking laity of the Jerusalem community.
During the Divine Liturgy H.H.B. our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos visited the Monastery escorted by Hagiotaphite Fathers.
Both the Patriarchal and the Episcopal entourages were received in a reception at the Hegoumeneion by the renovator of the Holy Monastery Abbess Charitini.
