THE FEAST OF ST MODESTOS PATRIARCH OF JERUSALEM AT THE PATRIARCHATE

On Saturday 18th/31th December 2016, the Patriarchate observed the memory of Saint Modestos, Patriarch of Jerusalem, in his historical monastery located on Abu-Tor hill, opposite Zion hill in the Southern New City of Jerusalem.

Saint Modestos served as a Patriarch in the years following the Persian conquest of Jerusalem in 614 A.D. He succeeded in the throne Patriarch Zacharias and through his mission he was evidenced a comforting angel for the Christians of the Holy Land morally, spiritually and materially, inspiring contrite souls and reconstructing annihilated Holy Churches and Monasteries.

In the aforementioned Holy Monastery, the Divine Liturgy was led by the Most Reverend Metropolitan Joachim of Helenoupolis. Concelebrants were Hagiotaphite Hieromonks and Deacons at the presence of the faithful congregation of the Church of Jerusalem.

During the Divine Liturgy, His Beatitude Theophilos Patriarch of Jerusalem arrived to venerate and was hosted at the reception by the monastery’s supervisor monk Antiochos.
