THE COMMEMORATION OF THE OPENING OF THE CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION 2016

On Monday, the 13th/26th of September 2016, divine Liturgy was served at the katholikon of the Church of the Resurrection in commemoration of the Church’s opening.

The opening of the Church of the Resurrection took place in the year 336 AD when in this first Christian Church our Lord Jesus Christ was venerated freely. On the invitation of St Constantine the Great, the Bishops who convened in Tyre, Sidon, gathered here, and led by Archbishop Makarios of Jerusalem, performed the Opening of the Church of the Resurrection – its beauty depicting the beauty of heavens – in the presence of St Helen, St Constantine’s mother.

The divine Liturgy was led by Metropolitan Isychios of Kapitolias, as Archimandrite Aristovoulos sang for a congregation of monks, nuns and pilgrims from various Orthodox countries.
