THE GATHERING OF STS JOACHIM AND ANNA, PARENTS OF THE VIRGIN MARY
On Thursday, the 9th/22nd of September 2016, the Patriarchate commemorated the Gathering of the Holy Parents of Theotokos, Sts Joachim and Anne, at the Monastery dedicated to their name, on the site of their house, adjacent to the city walls and Lions Gate or St Stephens Gate. By “Gathering” we mean the coming together of us the faithful in order to honour their memory as parents of Theotokos, nurturer of our lives.
The feast was observed with a divine Liturgy led by Metropolitan Joachim of Zambia. Nun Danielia sang for a congregation of monks, nuns and pilgrims. After the divine Liturgy, the hegumen, Archimandrite Meletios, hosted Primates and the faithful to a reception at the hegumeneion.
