THE FEAST OF ST PROKOPIOS THE MARTYR AT THE PATRIARCHATE

On Thursday, the 8th/21st of July 2016, the Patriarchate observed the feast of St Prokopios the martyr. St Prokopios hailed from Caesarea, Palestine. A military man, he was called by a vision to Christ and went on to preach for Him and suffer a martyr’s death circa 330 AD, during the reign of Diocletian. 

Vespers was held at St Prokopios chapel, on the hill of Abu Tor, in South New Jerusalem, near St Modestos chapel. The divine Liturgy was led by Archimandrite Ignatios, hegumen at the Monastery of the Shepherds, having as concelebrant Hierodeacon Markos. Archimandrite Timotheos Papastavrou of the Bishopric of Patras sang for a congregation of monks and nuns.

On the conclusion of the divine Liturgy, the Superintendent of the site, monk Antiochos, and Elder Nun Paisia, hosted the congregation to refreshments.
