THE FEAST OF ST GEORGE THE TROPHY BEARER AND GREAT MARTYR IN JERUSALEM

Α’ At St George ‘of the Hospital’ Church.

On the morning of 23 April/6 May 2016, feast day of St George, a panegyric divine Liturgy was held in the Old City of Jerusalem, the Christian quarter, at a short distance to the southwest of the Patriarchate, at the Monastery of St George “of the Hospital”. The eponymy is owed to the fact that the ever-memorable Patriarch Chrysanthos of Jerusalem had founded a hospital at the aforementioned monastery. The service was led by His Eminence Demetrios, Archbishop of Lydda, having as concelebrants Archimandrite Bartholomew and f. Alexios for Vespers, and Archimandrite Mathew and Hierodeacon Sophronios for the divine Liturgy. Novice monk G. Papanikolaou, teacher of Byzantine Music, sang for a pious congregation of monks, nuns, locals and pilgrims.

On the conclusion of the service, Abbess Pansemni hosted His Eminence and pilgrims to a reception at the hegumeneion.

Β´ At St George Beit Jala Monastery.

On the same day, Archbishop Theodosios of Sebaste led the divine Liturgy at St George Monastery in Beit Jala, having as concelebrants Archimandrite Ignatius and deacon Anastasios. Members of the Bethlehem Choir sang for numerous local faithful from Bethlehem, Beit Sahur and Beit Jala. On the conclusion of the divine Liturgy, the Prelatic Entourage and several others were hosted to a reception by the hegumen, Archimandrite Ananias.
