HOLY FRIDAY VESPERS

At 14:00 of Holy Friday the 16th/29th of April 2016, Vespers, namely the ceremony of the Deposition of Christ from the Cross, was performed at the katholikon of the Church of the Resurrection. Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem walked from the Central Monastery through the stairs of St James Cathedral, wearing an engolpion and epanokalimavkion [veil over the kalimavkion] and went on to venerate at the Horrendous Golgotha. He was accompanied by Hagiotaphite Fathers.

Holy Friday Vespers was then held at the katholikon of the Church of the Resurrection. On the conclusion of Vespers, the Choir, under Archimandrite Aristovoulos, sang the doxastic hymn “You who were wrapped in light as if it were a robe…” as pious pilgrims mourned blithely.

The service was broadcast live on the Patriarchate’s radio station.
