THE FEAST OF ST PROKOPIOS THE GREAT MARTYR AT THE PATRIARCHATE

On Monday, the 8th/21st of July 2014, the feast of the great martyr Prokopios was celebrated at the Patriarchate. Originally a persecutor of Christians, Prokopios went on to preach Christ after believing in a vision. He suffered a martyr’s death in 303 AD, in Caesaria, Palestine.

The feast was observed at the chapel dedicated to his name, which lies in the South New Jerusalem, across from the hill of St Sion, alongside the chapel of St Modestos in the Abu Tor region.

The Vespers and Divine Liturgy were performed by the spiritual father of the Monastery of Hosios Sabba, the sanctified Archimandrite Evdokimos, as monks and faithful of the Church of Jerusalem participated in piety.

During the Divine Liturgy, H.B. Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem visited the chapel with Archimandrite Aristarchos of Constantina, Elder Secretary General.

At the conclusion of the service, Monk Antiochos, the Monastery’s conservator, courteously hosted the congregation to a reception at the forecourt of the Monastery.
