On Sunday the 25th of November/8th of December 2013, the Patriarchate observed the feast of St Catherine, the great-martyr and most wise, who suffered a martyr’s death in Alexandria, in the name of Christ.
This year, because of the unsafe situation in Sinai desert, it was not possible for a delegation of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem to travel to the Patriarchal Holy Monastery of St Catherine in Sinai. Instead, the feast was celebrated at the Monastery of St Catherine in the Christian quarter near the Patriarchate. There, the Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod, His Eminence Demetrios, Archbishop of Lydda, led the Vespers and the divine Liturgy on the day of the feast. Co-officiating were Hagiotaphite Hieromonks and deacons, in the presence of Orthodox faithful, monks and laymen from Jerusalem, as well as pilgrims, whilst Hagiotaphite Fathers chanted with students of the Patriarchal School who arrived after the conclusion of the divine Liturgy at the All-holy Church of the Resurrection.
In the course of the divine Liturgy, His Beatitude Theophilos, our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem arrived, in the company of Hagiotaphite Fathers, to venerate.
At the conclusion of the divine Liturgy, the Hegoumen, Archimandrite f. Dositheos, hosted a reception for the Prelatic Retinue and all those present, at the Hegoumen’s quarters.
